1ST Hole Mandatory drop zone
A mandatory drop zone is now in force to the right of the first hole before the first bunker. It is in place for any shot deemed to have gone into the water hazards to the right of the 1st hole. Rules of golf appendix1 part A 6 and part B 8 apply.
Obstructions
- Astro turf (unless it is within a hazard) surfaced roads and paths, (Rule 24-2)
- Stones in bunkers are moveable obstructions (Rule 24-1)
- Staked trees and shrubs are immoveable obstructions and relief MUST be taken under Rule 24-2
- Sprinkler heads and stopcock covers etc are immoveable obstructions (Rule 24-2)
- The sewage installation and hedge surrounding it to the right of the 9th fairway (Rule 24-2)
Winter Greens
Are ‘Wrong Putting Green' and relief must be taken (Rule 25-3)
Ground Under Repair
The following are defined as Ground Under Repair (G.U.R.)
- Areas contained within white lines, either coppices of young trees or ‘work in progress'. Players MUST proceed under Rules 25-1a, 1b & 1c.
- A deep vehicle rut (Relief may be taken)
- Scrapes and holes made by non-burrowing animals (e.g. squirrels) (Relief may be taken)
Procedures for 10th Hole
The fence within the Lateral Water Hazard on the left of the 10th fairway MUST NOT BE CROSSED in order to identify or retrieve golf balls. For the whole length of the lateral water hazard RELIEF MUST be taken by playing from the Drop Zone provided. Rules of Golf Appendix 1 Part A 6 & Part B 8 apply.
In order to speed play, if a ball is hit towards the left side of the 10th fairway and may lie in the Lateral Water Hazard, no provisional ball may be played. If the ball can not be found it is held to be in the hazard and the following Local Rule applies:
"If the ball is in, or it is known or virtually certain that the ball that has not been found is in, the lateral water hazard the player will drop a ball, under penalty of one stroke, in the dropping zone."
This Rule applies to the entire length of the Lateral Water Hazard and relief under Rule 26-1 is not available. A ball resting against the fence lies in the hazard and must be dropped in the dropping zone.
Wrong Putting Green
With the exception of ‘Winter Greens' for the purposes of Rule 25-3, the term ‘wrong putting green' is defined as an area extending two club lengths from the outer edge of the fringe of the putting surface (cut between putting surface and fairway cut).
Transportation
Players must not ride on any form of transportation during a stipulated (competition) round unless authorised by the Committee.
General
- Water hazards are marked with Yellow Posts, Lateral water Hazards with Red Posts
- Bridges, tracks and paths crossing a hazard are deemed to be within the hazard they cross.
- Preferred lies, on all closely mown areas (cut to fairway height or less) through the green, may be used in Casual Play throughout the year.
- The area between the road crossing the course and the 8th green is not fairway nor deemed closely mown and a preferred lie is not available.
- Throughout the year, through the green, a ball that is embedded in its own pitch-mark in the ground may be lifted, without penalty, cleaned and dropped as near as possible to where it lay but not nearer the hole. (Rules 20-2b & 2c)
- White tees are reserved for competitors playing in Competitions sanctioned by Tenterden Golf Club. All other male players must use the Yellow tees with ladies using red tees for competition and casual play.
The following temporary rules operate when authorised or if circumstances dictate
Preferred Lies/Winter Rules during Club Competitions
At all times, when conditions dictate and authorised on the White Board giving details of the day's competitions, or agreed between competitors in Match play matches, the following Temporary Local Rule shall apply:
"A ball lying on a closely mown area through the green may, without penalty, be moved or may be lifted, cleaned and placed within six inches (150 mm) of where it originally lay, but not nearer the hole and not in a hazard or on a putting green.
A player may move or place the ball once and after the ball has been so moved or placed it is in play."
Bunkers designated as Ground Under Repair
If a Bunker is totally designated as Ground Under Repair it is classified as ‘through the green'. The ball may be dropped outside of the bunker without penalty.
Aeration Holes
When the course has been aerated, the following Temporary Local Rule (under Appendix 1 Part A 4 d) shall apply:
"Through the green, a ball that comes to rest in or on an aeration hole may be lifted, without penalty, cleaned and dropped, as near as possible to the spot where it lay but not nearer the hole. The ball when dropped must first strike a part of the course through the green.
On the putting green, a ball that comes to rest in or on an aeration hole may be placed at the nearest spot not nearer the hole that avoids the situation."
Temporary Immovable Obstructions
For the purposes of Appendix 1 Part A 7 Fences erected around greens to protect new turf or other ‘work in progress' are temporary immovable obstructions (TIO).
Line of sight Relief under Part A 7 a 111 is available from anywhere on the course provided that the next stroke would normally be directly to the flag, there are no other obstacles on the line of flight and it is reasonable to assume it would to reach the TIO. If in a hazard the ball can only be dropped in the hazard.
